Interested in developing a global art history.

MISSION

Growing up surrounded by art, creativity was always near by. with that creatively I aim to assist in the development of a new global art history outside of a western-centric mindset. By focusing on collaboration, communication, and integration, areas of interchange are researched in my work in order to uncover global connections that have developed vast networks over space and time.

  • Born and raised in Virginia I have been enveloped in art my entire life. With an artist as a parent, my interest and fascination with the field has been developing since childhood. Pursuing that fascination in my undergraduate studies, I received my bachelors degree in art history with a minor in sociology from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUArts). I now continue my studies in the art history masters program also at VCUArts. Hoping to assist in the development of a more global art history by investigating sites of communication between different modernisms, I dive deep into the theoretical frameworks that exist within art history and apply them to artistic movements all over the globe.

  • As a graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University I was tasked with creating a project for the Hamad Bin Khalifa Symposium on Islamic Art. My Project entitled ‘Restituting the Conception of Modernism” aims to highlight the global connections that exist within modernism, and break down why those connections are not studied in undergraduate art history courses, while also offering a way to locate and examine these connections. Taking the form of a teaching module, this project was presented to a group of undergraduate students in a class on German expressionism, for which I am the graduate teaching assistant.
